In this city-wide treasure hunt, players explore Fremantle while searching for hidden temporal beacons left behind by a time travelling professor’s malfunctioning time machine.

All players who complete the map go in the draw to win the professor’s hidden chest of gold coins valued at $1000.

How old do participants need to be?

The treasure hunt is suitable for the whole family. Children under age 12 will likely need help to solve. All minors must be supervised by a guardian.

Participants under 18 can enter the prize draw with parent or legal guardian permission, ensuring a waiver has been completed.

What happens if multiple people solve the treasure hunt?

All correct solutions are entered into a random prize draw, and one winner will receive the $1000 prize.

What is the Fremantle Treasure Hunt?

The Fremantle Treasure Hunt is a self-guided puzzle adventure across Fremantle. Players receive a mysterious map filled with puzzles that lead them to hidden beacons around the city. Solve the clues, unlock the secrets, and you may uncover the final solution that enters you into the draw for the $1000 treasure prize.

When does the treasure hunt take place?

The hunt officially begins on Saturday April 18th at 6am.

Once the event starts, you can play any time that suits you.

As this treasure hunt involves interacting with Freo businesses we recommend playing between the hours of 9am - 5pm (Monday - Sunday)

Submission deadline for entry into the final prize is 5pm May 18th 2026

Where does it take place?

The game takes place throughout Fremantle, Western Australia. All puzzle locations are within the Fremantle area and accessible on foot within a 2km radius of Town Hall.

Where do I start?

You can start anywhere within Fremantle.. The treasure hunt is non-linear, meaning you can begin with any puzzle location shown on the map.

How long does the treasure hunt take?

The treasure hunt should take approximately 60–90 minutes to complete, depending on how quickly players solve the puzzles.

How do I get the map?

After registering for the event, you will receive a downloadable treasure map.

If you register before April 18, the map will be emailed to you the day before the event begins.

Do I need to print the map?

No, you do not need to print the map to complete the treasure hunt but it is highly recommended.

Some puzzles require drawing, writing, or marking clues directly on the map, which is much easier with a printed copy.

Can I play alone or in a team?

You can play solo or with friends and family. Many players choose to work together in small teams.

Each submission to win the prize is per player via a unique email address.

Is the treasure hunt family friendly?

Yes. The event is family-friendly and suitable for all ages, though younger players may need help solving some puzzles.

What is the prize?

One lucky participant will win the $1000 cash prize presented in a treasure chest containing 1000 x $1 coins.

How do I win?

Players who successfully solve the final puzzle will be able to enter the prize draw.

One winner will be randomly selected from all correct entries.

When will the winner be announced?

The prize submission window closes at 5:00pm on the 18th of May 2026. The winner will be chosen and notified by 5:30pm of the 18th of May 2026. The prize will be presented in Fremantle on the 19th of May at the convenience of the promoter.

Do I need a phone to play?

A smartphone capable of NFC technology will be required to play the treasure hunt.

If you use your phone for "tap and pay" then your phone is NFC compatible. Refer to your system settings for NFC compatibility

Do I need internet access?

Yes, your phone will be required to access the internet to play the media content needed to complete the map puzzles.

Will I need to enter buildings or businesses?

Yes. This treasure hunt is partnered with local Fremantle businesses (TOP Coffee, The Pickled Fairy, New Edition, Shipwreck Museum). For best accessibility check the participating store hours. We recommend playing the event within 9am - 5pm Mon - Sun.
